Full description

Buck, C., 2010, George & Charlotte Mine, Morwell, Devon: Archaeological Assessment, 34 (Report - Assessment). SDV345606.

The lower dressing floor undertook manual dressing of the copper ore from Whim Shaft, and perhaps the lower adits in the early years of the mine's development of the lode. It is shown on the 19th century estate maps, and there may have been a small stationary engine which powered a small ore crusher, although manual means of breaking the ore may have predominated. The ground is flat in places, but mainly formed of a large spoil heap cascading down the hillside. Apart from the remains of a structure at the north end. there is little evidence of any other dressing floor buildings. There is a long stone retaining wall , 3.2 metres high at its maximum height, for a length of approximately 15 metres, which has collapsed in places. There may have been a flat rod power source (from the water wheel to the south-east), for turning other dressing floor machinery, and water from the leat above could have been used for the ore dressing.
