Summary

Austin's bridge, 17th century bridge of stone with three roughly semi- circular arches. Middle arch higher and wider than the sides. Cutwaters to the sides, arches in closely set slabs. Spandrels and cutwaters closely coursed slabs. Additional two small flood arches at the north east end with small cutwaters. Only the cutwater between the middle and the north east arches is carried up as a refuge. Cutwaters capped with cement. At the south west end the road is carried diagonally across the corner on a modern skew arch. The north east arch has been widened slightly at the gorge. Spans the dart. Bridge of five arches, one of these is dated 1749. The bridge is a patched and composite work. Parts of the piers may be of a certain age but it retains no features of interest (os).
