Timms, S. C., 1977-1981, Bideford Development Control Consultations (Un-published). SDV346164.

Visited 2nd May 1979 by Pam Egeland. Proposal for reinstatement of existing arched window in south side.

Torridge Lodge including gate piers and front boundary wall (Formerly Listed as: Northam Road, Torridge Lodge).
Detached house. Early 19th century. Solid rendered walls. Hipped slate roof. Rebuilt red-brick chimneys. House fronts garden.
Single-depth plan, 2 rooms wide with through-passage; right-hand room projects as a large bow and has staircase behind it; range behind left-hand room fronts road and is believed to incorporate an earlier house on the site. 2 storeys; 2-window range to left and 3-window bow to right, the outer windows in each storey blind. Raised band at first-floor level. Deep eaves cornice. Round-arched doorway with moulded architrave; half-glazed door with 2 moulded panels below and 4 panes of glass above. Box-framed sash-window to left with 4 over 4 panes. Bow has 3-paned French windows with 2-paned side-sashes and fanlight. Upper-storey windows have 2-paned sashes; triple sashes in thepbow. Street frontage has 2-paned sash-windows with sill band in upper storey. Pilaster strip at each end. Pointed-arched window in side wall to right.
Interior: left ground-floor room of garden range has enriched cornice and ceiling-band; foliated chandelier boss; painted stone chimneypiece with bracketed mantelshelf. Right-hand room has similar chimneypieces; moulded cornice. Dog-leg wooden stair with thin square balusters. To right of street frontage is a rendered wall approx 1.8m long with chamfered coping. To right the wall swings back in 2 quadrants towards a pair of square gate-piers with pyramidal caps.
