Full description

Fisher, J., 1999, East Devon Conservation Area Appraisals: Budleigh Salterton, 9 (Report - non-specific). SDV346418.

St. Peter's Church was built in 1893 by G. Fellowes-Prynne, a gift of Mark Rolle in place of a chapel of ease of 1811. Large and cruciform with Early English style lancets and only the lower stage of a north-west tower and spire completed. It is built of grey limestone with Doulton stone trim. The interior is enriched with arcade piers of Doulton stone and marble, a screen of Beer stone and marble, and a pulpit of sandstone.

Church of St Peter, 1893 by G H Fellowes Prynne in a free Early English style. Built of grey stone with yellow stone dressings and a tiled roof. Comprising nave, north and aisles, no clerestory, double south transepts with apse on east side, and south porch. Geometric tracery and lancets. Large five-light east window with geometric tracery. West end with group of three tall two-light window over a gabled partico.
Interior: five-bay arcades, the piers with marble shafts and moulded capitals. Chancel arch with clusters of similar marble shafts, the responds on corbels with carved angels. Boarded wagon roof.
Furnishings: Carved stone reredos. Stone and wrought iron screen. Pulpit with wrought iron and brasswork. Modern seating.
