Full description

Fisher, J., 1999, East Devon Conservation Area Appraisals: East Budleigh, 6, 8 (Report - non-specific). SDV346582.

In High Street there is a very good range of cob and thatch, especially on the west side. As well as plain vernacular the frontage continues through to classical detailing, but is done so in a manner that is perfectly in scale and proportion to the overall profile. Other details: Maps.

English Heritage, 2011, Historic Houses Register (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV346128.

Cottage. Probably 19th century. Plastered cob on stone rubble footings; stone rubble or brick stack topped with 19th century brick; thatch roof. Two-room plan cottage does not actually front onto High Street. It has been made from a rear block of No.15 High Street which it butts to east. It actually faces Hayes Lane to north. Left room has front corner stack in party wall with No.15 High Street. Two storeys. Irregular fenestration with 2 ground floor and 1 first floor casements with glazing bars. The roof butts No 15 High Street to left and is half-hipped to right. The right end contains a 20th century door with contemporary casement over.
Interior. No carpentry detail exposed on ground floor and roof not inspected. 17 High Street, although not actually on the High Street, is one of a group of varied and attractive buildings, most of them listed, which line High Street as it rises to the Church of All Saints.

Ordnance Survey, 2011, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV346129.
