Full description

Watts, S., 2011, Watermeadow and Leat System at Newton St Cyres (Site Visit). SDV346605.

Site visit 9th February 2011. The remains of a small waterwheel survive in the hedgebank below Court Barton Lane. The wheel, mostly of iron, is just 46 inches diameter and bears the name 'STENNER & GUNN TIVERTON' on the naves. There is a small pulley on one end of its wheelshaft but it is not clear what it was used to drive. The wheel has been displaced from its ?concrete block 'wheelpit', the latter still retains an iron sluice gate. Both wheel and pit are considerably overgrown.
