A vernacular building so rustic that it is difficult to date precisely, but the character of the roof trusses probably indicates a date of 18th- or early 19th century. It was originally open-fronted and had an impracticably low open front to its first floor, and it may therfore have been reduced in height from its original form. The rear wall is of limestone blocks with sandstone quoins, typical of the Exe Estuary area. The end gable wall is of cob below and timber framing above. The wall facing the field was originally open, but has been clad in a mixture of planks and partly with cob containted between lathe. The latter is a rare constructional feature confined in my experience to East Devon, and seemingly to the 19th century at the tail end of the cob tradition. The roof was originally thatched and some thatch still remains under the existing sheeting. The timber of the roof structure is largely cut straight from the hedgerow, again a very vernacular feature.

Has been re-roofed in slate.
