Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Three round buddles shown on 1880s-1890s 25 inch Ordnance Survey map.

Passmore, A., 2009, Archaeological Recording at Anderton Mine, Tavistock, Devon, 3; figures 2-4; plate 1 (Report - Watching Brief). SDV347943.

A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken during the construction of the Anderton Mine to Grenofen Tunnel Cycleway. One of the buddles within the dressing floor was partially exposed, terraced into the natural subsoil and constructed on a make-up layer of silty clay. It had been heavily truncated, leaving at most a single course of surviving slate local masonry, with an internal diameter of approximately 5 metres. Inside the buddle was a layer of silt, some of which was very compacted, almost certainly representing tin slimes (processed tin).

Newman, P., 2011, Mining in the Tavy Valley, West Devon. An Assessment of Archaeological Potential, 12, Fig 4 (Report - Assessment). SDV347105.

Anderton mine has a split location. The old mine is in the valley of the Tiddy Brook to the east of the modern A386. The later section is at Anderton, a farm to the west of the road. The former site included a dressing floor with round buddles.
