Monument Type(s) and Dates

  • BOUNDARY (XIX - 1801 AD to 1900 AD (Between))

Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Boundary not depicted on Tithe Map.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The northern boundary of the property is shown as a straight line approximately 50 metres north of the house, on a east-north-east to west-south-west alignment.

Exeter Archaeology, 2007, Archaeological Assessment of Land at Lower Duryard, Exeter University, 6 (Report - Assessment). SDV347264.

Map evidence suggests that the boundary between Great and Little Duryard was formed by a straight line by 1887, but by 1951 a path passed through it, and by 1968 the boundary was no longer present. It may have been no more substantial than a fence. This boundary was probably the result of the Great Duryard grounds extending southwards following the establishment of the Duryard Park Estate Company in 1865. Other details: Figures 2, 6-8.

Ordnance Survey, 2011, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV346129.

Exeter Archaeology, March 2007, Archaeological Assessment of Land at Lower Duryard Exeter University, 3, 4 (Report - Assessment). SDV355813.

A property depicted as Mr Copplestone's is shown on the 1757 Exeter Chamber Map Book, Map 1. An east-west field boundary which roughly corresponds with the northern boundary of Mr. Copplestone's property is shown on the first and second edition Ordnance Survey maps but appears to be of later date.
