Full description
Steinmetzer, M., 2009, Archaeological Monitoring on Land at Edge Farm, Branscombe (Report - Watching Brief). SDV347298.
A watching brief was maintained during an initial ground reduction associated with the construction of an agricultural building at Edge Farm. The development lies in an area where prehistoric activity is demonstrated by known prehistoric settlements, findspots and flint tools. The area measured approximately 47 metres by 18 metres and was situated to the north of existing agricultural buildings. Although no features were found to indicate prehistoric activity, a total of 108 worked flints were recovered from the topsoil. These were predominantly struck from mottled grey flint or cherty flint, probably from the same source, however a small number of better quality dark grey flints were included, which are likely to have been imported from elsewhere. They included a small number of cores, and several scrapers which suggest an earlier Bronze Age date. Other details: Plan. Map object based on this Source.
