Full description
Chris Blandford Associates, 1997, Barnstaple Western Bypass and Urban Relief Road Stage 4. Environmental Assessment Phase A, 14 (Report - Assessment). SDV347381.
Former drove road and waste, SS55433245 to SS55603170. A wide strip of land bounded by the Sticklepath to Lake road on the west side and a high boundary bank on the east side, probably medieval in origin. Propoerties have subsequently been built on the waste and the land sub-divided into separate plots, particularly orchards, forcing the road to run along the west side of the strip. The eastern boundary bank no longer survives as a field/property boundary at the southern end, but can still be traced as a distinct ploughed-out feature across ploughed ground to the south of what is now called Pill Farm to the north-east of Lake. A wide drove can also be traced running west off the main north-south line.
Lewis, D., Sept 2011, Land at Larkbear, Barnstaple: Archaeological Desk-based Assessment, 10 (Report - Assessment). SDV352261.
