Along the valley side efforts were made to utilise the stream to irrigate the lower slopes. A number of catchment leats can be traced through the pasture in Luscombe Meadow (183 on the Tithe Map). These run off the stream at the southern end close to the old quarry (now the site of Lower Orchard and Russet Spinney). The upper one is visible as a 2 metres wide terraced earthwork curving around the contour at the south end, where it goes through the boundary into a private garden in the old quarry. The terrace is about 1.5 metres wide at the south end, fading to a low scarp 0.5 metres high, worn down by cattle, and extends for about 60-70 metres north before fading out on the slope.
