Full description

Auer, J. + Moore, C., 2003, Barnstaple Downstream Bridge and Western Bypass. Archaeological Foreshore Survey, 3, Fig. 1, Pl. 4 (Report - Survey). SDV347352.

Part of a wooden carvel built hull, 5.76 metres long, recorded in front of the seawall. Wreckage consisted of floor timbers and a few planks on a part of the keel and deadwood. Iron keel bolts were visible. The planks were attached to the frames with copper nails. A wooden engine mounting with iron fittings was also seen. The size and construction of the planks and frames indicate a smaller vessel, such as a sailing yacht, of post-medieval to modern date, probably built in the first quarter of the 20th century.
