Full description

Berry, N., 2009, Land at Compton Castle, Devon, 50 (Report - Survey). SDV347354.

Earthwork of scarp from removed field boundary and possible trackway alongside. The site forms the boundary between field 136 and 181 on the Tithe Map. The alignment continues south-west in the boundary between Back Castle Orchard and 181 and beyond, to link with the north end of the plantation 178.The earthworks are on the north side of the boundary, now a wire fence. The track swings over the hill into a small plantation of beech trees only recently established. The scarp is about 1 metre high and 1.5 - 2 metres wide. Other details: Site Inventory map (2) 028.
