Full description

Context One Archaeological Services, 2010, Land Adjacent to South Molton Hospital, Widgery Drive, South Molton, North Devon (Report - Evaluation). SDV347309.
Sections of ditch recorded in Trenches 1 and 2 appear to correspond with a field boundary aligned west-north-west to south-south-east shown on the Tithe Map and subsequent Ordnance Survey maps. Finds included post-medieval and modern pottery, mostly North Devon gravel-tempered ware, sherds of later 17th-early 18th century bottle glass and clay tobacco pipe stems. Two further ditches recorded during a programme of Japanese Knotweed eradication are thought to be modern in date; 1003 contained 19th century pottery and domestic waste and was still present off-site in the form of a hedgerow.
