Full description
Berry, N., 2009, Land at Compton Castle, Devon, 15, 66 (Report - Survey). SDV347354.
Waterlogged area seen in Pool Park Meadow (130 on the tithe map), forming a large oval area along the centre line of the combe, draining to the north-east. It looks regular in outline, and given the field name, it is possible that this may be the remains of a formal park feature. At the beginning of the 19th century this and the adjacent field to the north-west (129 Great Pool Park) were one field known as Pool Park. If a former pool did exist here, it may be the remnants of the puddled clay lining that has escaped the plough and retains water in wet weather. Other details: Site Inventory map (2) 071.
