A flat-topped milestone on the slipway at the lower ferry in Kingswear marks the start of the Dartmouth and Torquay Turnpike Trust. The stone shows distances to Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, Toprquay, Brixham, Totnes and Exeter in miles, furlongs and poles. Exeter is marked as being 34 miles, 6 furlongs and 20 poles.

Mile Post immediately south of Royal Dart Hotel. Milepost situated on slipway of the Lower Dart Ferry. Circa early 19th century. Rectangular granite post. It is unusual in having the distances in miles, furlongs and poles. Inscribed on front: TO M F P Newton 16.6.24 Teignmouth 18.4.14 Torquay 12.2.14 Brixham 4.4.8 Totnes 11.4.8 Exeter 32.6.20.
