Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Milestone marked on 1880s-1890s 25 inch Ordnance Survey map, 5 miles to Torrington 5, 29 to Exeter.

Milestone approximately 240 metres to south-west of Yatton Court. Early to mid 19th century. Granite. Triangular section with 2 round-headed faces to front. Inscriptions largely illegible at time of survey (December 1987), but probably formerly read : '29/Miles/Exeter' and '5/Miles/Torrington'. Included as one of a series along the B3220. Date listed: 16th February 1989.

Site visit: 2nd February 2012. Milestone partly buried in the bank on the north side of the road, 5m east of the entrance drive to Yatton Court. Inscribed '29/Miles/Exon; 5/Miles/Torrington'.
Set up c.1835 when a new road to Exeter was built by the Great Torrington Turnpike Trust as far as Morchard Road, where it joined the Exeter to Barnstaple Turnpike (A377).
The milestone, which is Grade II listed, is at risk from neglect.
