Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

A milestone is marked as 'MS. Barnstaple 1' on the First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map.


Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

A milestone is marked as 'M.S. Barnstaple 1' on the Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map.

One of the last acts of the Barnstaple Turnpike Trust was to replace all the old mileposts with granite milestones in 1879.

Milestone by Bradiford Bridge, Pilton. One of 105 erected in 1879; the stones being supplied by J. Easton & Son's of Exeter, who had their works in Northernhay Street.

Site visit 22nd November 2006. A milestone (c.1879) located in Bradiford, approximately 20 metres north of Meadow Road, against a wall just north of the bridge, on the east side of the road. It was found to be worn, with a discoloured base and some chips on the sides. Its legend reads '1/BARUM'.

Milestone immediately north-west of Bradiford Bridge. Early 19th century. Dressed granite with rounded top. Incised with inscription 1 BARUM. Date listed: 29th September 1999.
