A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken during the construction of the Anderton Mine to Grenofen Tunnel Cycleway. In the field to the north of the mine a subcircular feature 1.75 metres in diameter was partially exposed. It was filled with brown silty clay containing slate and brick fragments, and represents a well shown on the late 19th century Ordnance Survey map. This feature was not excavated since it was below the formation level of the new cycleway and the trench flooded soon after excavation.
