A short section of curving hedgebank, located at the edge of the north area, was a remnant of a more extensive field system centred on Crownhill Down Cottage, which first appears on the 1966 Ordnance Survey map. This is not shown on the Plympton St Mary Tithe Map. Much of the system to the north of the surviving bank had been removed by excavations for the main Headon Quarry. The earth bank was circa 1.5 metres high and 1.9 metres wide, and was revetted on the outside with granite rubble. A trench was excavated across the hedgebank as part of the evaluation excavations.
