Hegarty, C. + Knight, S., 2011 - 2012, North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV349018.

Narrow ridge and furrow of probable modern date is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1946 to 1954. They are centred on circa SS 24212621, in a field on a north-facing slope in which a springhead previously issued, as depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map. This may support the interpretation that the field was deep-ploughed to improve drainage for agriculture, resulting in the ridged earthworks after the publication of the First Edition map in the 1880s or 1890s. A portion of the field immediately to the west also appears to have been improved in this way. The ridges cover an area of circa 0.6 hectares and are aligned north to south and east to west, and are spaced between and 4 to 6 metres apart. The earthworks are not clearly visible in any aerial photographs taken after 1954 and may have been levelled by further improvements. Similar improvement earthworks can be seen immediately to the south.
