Thin, early, west tower with much batter, low polygonal stair turret, no pinnacles, unmoulded tower arch. Nave and two aisles of s bays, octagonal piers with capitals decorated with fleurons. Moulded arches. The windows all renewed, but the star shape in the tracery of the chancel south window likely to be original i. E. C 1330-50. Two storeyed south porch. Pulpit, 18th century (pevsner).

The church is undoubtedly on the site of a much earlier foundation which was itself on the site, probably, of an ancient burial ground. Some parts of the walling are built of marble. Some of te church fittings are noted (tapley-soper).

It is thought that the bishops and canons of the 11th century cathedral church at exeter had a rural oratory in staverton at the time of the domesday survey (reichel).
