HER Number:MDV81297
Name:Relict field boundary north-west of West Fattacott Farm

Summary

A probable relict field boundary is visible as a linear earthwork bank on aerial photographs from 1946 and on images derived from LiDAR flown in 2007. It is orientated roughly north to south and the visible extent of the bank material has a width of 6 metres. Its greater width distinguishes it from the slightly narrower ridge and furrow in the adjacent fields, which is also aligned north- to south, respecting the orientation of the field system and therefore likely to be more recent. The bank is not depicted on the 1880s-1890s Ordnance Survey mapping, so probably predates this and may be medieval in date. The bank is likely to be a continuation of a field boundary to the south which is extant on photographs of 1946 but has since been removed and is also distinguishable as an earthwork bank on the 2007 LiDAR information.

Royal Air Force, 1946, RAF/106G/UK/1631, 2075-2076 (Aerial Photograph). SDV349023.

A pale linear earthwork is visible, probably a continuation of the extant field boundary to its south. Other details: DCC RAF/106G/UK/1631 2075-2076 08-JUL-1946.

GetMapping, 1999, 089/99, 0262-0263 (Aerial Photograph). SDV349037.

A pale linear earthwork bank is visible aligned roughly north to south. It is contiguous with a more distinct linear earthwork feature to the south, which is probably the remains of a hedgebank removed after 1946. Other details: DCC GM/089/99 0262-0263 24-JUL-1999.

Environment Agency, 2007, LiDAR data JPEG image (1 metre resolution), D0076544, D0076549 (Cartographic). SDV349139.

A linear bank aligned roughly north to south is visible. Other details: LIDAR SS2627SE Environment Agency D0076549 24-MAR-2007, LIDAR SS2627SW Environment Agency D0076544 24-MAR-2007.
