Name: | Earthworks from agricultural improvement north-west of West Fattacott Farm |

Summary
Narrow ridge and furrow is visible on aerial photographs from 1946 as cross-contour earthworks in parts of three fields, presumably a result of modern deep ploughing for drainage and agricultural improvement. Examination of 2007 LiDAR suggests that earthworks have been levelled in one of the three fields.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S., 2011-2012, North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV349018.
Narrow ridge and furrow between 3 and 5 metres wide is visible on aerial photographs from 1946 as earthworks in parts of three fields, centred at SS2649227159, SS2657027065 and SS2659026943. A natural springline runs through the latter two fields, and the orientation of the ridge and furrow differs on either side of the spring line. The ridges run cross-contour, and are presumably a result of deep ploughing to increase the speed of land drainage. On the west of the spring line they are orientated approximately north to south, and on the east of the spring line they are aligned approximately north-east to south-west. The earthworks are just discernable on 2007 LiDAR data in the fields centred on SS2649227159 and SS2657027065, but not in the field centred on SS2659026943, suggesting that it has been levelled in just one of the three fields.
