Summary
One of two Bronze Age hut circles on Horridge Common with an enclosure between them. Attached to the south side of a cross reave. The hut is has a diameter of 4.8 metres and the walls include some large boulders but it has suffered much at the hands of the modern wall builders when most of the masonry on the north-eastern arc of the wall was removed. This site was excavated by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1897, when pottery, flint and slate artefacts were retrieved, though the work here was never completed. Surveyed at 1:200 scale May 2015.

Full description
Baring Gould, S., 1897, Fourth Report of the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, 156 (Article in Serial). SDV337081.
Small group of huts lying close to the corner of newtake wall separating Horridge and Halsanger Common. Two huts only examined. Hut 1 yielded traces of charcoal from the floor, which was unusually deep; two broken grit rubber stones; one flint flake used as a knife or scraper; a flint spall; 2 or 3 pieces of grey slate; portions of a blue slate disc with edges ground down. Very large stones in this circle. Hut 2; large with stones of considerable size. No charcoal but fragments of red pottery found.

(17/05/1960) There are two hut circles at SX 7504 7484 and SX 7504 7480 and between them a quadrilateral enclosure or pound (at SX 7505 7482).

Site visit April 1999. Stone hut circle within coaxial fields on Halsanger Common. Diameter 4.9 metres. Double orthostat wall 1.2 metres wide, 1.2 metres high. A 130 degree gap may represent a doorway. Grass and bracken.
