Summary

Mill dates to at least the early 17th century, based on cartographic evidence. Disused before middle of 19th century, a substantial part of the mill structure has been incorporated into cottages. Leat is still running and water sinks into old wheel pit on east side of cottages. Name of field is Tucking Mill on the map showing use as mill for processing woollen goods.

'Rewlea Cottages' are marked on the late 19th century historic map; former mill building has been divided into six cottages.

There is a water mill shown, standing on a leat at approximately SX 75607097, on a map of part of the Manor of Ashburton, dated 1605. Amery mentions three mills at Rew and Rewley (Rewlea) between Lurge mill (SX 77 SE 10) and Tucking Mill, near Pitt (SX 77 SE 12).

Rewlea Cottages is mentioned in documentary records dating to 1330 ('Reylecomb') and 1583 ('Rewlacomb').

(18/07/1951) SX 75607097 Tucking mill (remains of water mill incorporated into Rewlea Cottages). Water mill standing on a leat is shown on a map of part of the manor of Ashburton dated 1605 (citing Transactions of the Devonshire Association, Vol 56, 1924, pg. 94).
Tithe Map records the cottages as dwellings, indicating that the mill was disused before the middle of 19th century. Substantial part of mill incorporated into cottages. Leat is still running and water sinks into old wheel pit on east side of cottages at SX 756 170. Name of field is Tucking Mill on the map showing use as mill for processing woollen goods.
