Name:Roman pottery found at Rushford Barton

Summary

Vis=4/4/1976(balkwill, c. J. ) a quantity of roman pottery was found while digging a drainage ditch in an orchard at rushford barton in 1914-1915. The sherds were collected by mr r. Furse and some were given to dr young of okehampton, the author of the parish history, now deceased. One sherd is still in the possession of mr e. J. Furse, who supplied this information in april 1976, and the sherd, a grey-ware rim and body of an olla-type jar, was shown to the recorder (balkwill). Material from this site includes 'south devon' r-b fabrics, according to distribution map by bidwell and sivester in cunliffe 1988 (fmg).
