Site visit 6th December 1978. This building is orentated east-west. No visible evidence to confirm that it stands on the site of the chapel. Other details: Photograph.

A Royal Charter of 1189 granted to Hartland Abbey chapels at Harton, Cheristow, Welcombe and all other chapels built in the parish. This probably included St. James' which is recorded in 1400.
