Summary

Parish church since 1837, before which it was a Chapel of Ease from St Mary's Brixham. The 14th century tower is all that remains of the early 13th century church, and the remainder was rebuilt in 1847.

Church of st. Thomas, kingswear. There is the possibility of an earlier chapel having existed on the site of the present church. It had a burial ground and is sited close to the main open wells of the village, as many celtic chapels are (russell + yorke).

Once in the patronage of the premonstratensian canons of tor and served by a priest appointed by that house. Tradition says he resided in the tower, which has a fireplace on the first storey. The church became decayed, and was pulled down with the exception of the tower (holdsworth + smart).

For discoveries made during the work, see sx85se/10/4. Parish church of st. Thomas of canterbury since 1837, before which it was a chapel of ease from st. Mary's brixham. C14 tower of slate rubble is all that remains of the medieval (early c13) church. The remainder rebuilt in 1847 by j. Hayward of exeter in local limestone rubble with freestone dressings in a decorated style. Slate roofs. Nave and chancel is one and south aisle with 2 light north and south windows.
