In the mid 19th century, the upper or eastern end of Higher Water (one of the lakes which formed part of Lancelot Brown's late 18th century scheme for Ugbrooke Park) was separated to form a mill pool to power sawmills constructed to the north and south of the lake. Today (1999), remains of the mills, mill race and a stone bridge survive.

Ordnance Survey, 2012, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV348725.

The mill pond has been extended towards the road to the north.
