Full description

WILLIAMS, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV22693.

The chancel is 13th century, north aisle perpendicular with granite piers. West tower has diagonal buttresses (pevsner) the early foundation of the church may be explained by the presumption that horton abbey, who had land here at the time of the domesday survey, had an oratory here in the 11th century (reichel, 1898). The patronage of the church is discussed. An enquiry of 1342 lists various defects; those for which the parish were responsible included the nave which was dirty and had a poor roof. The rectors were responsible for the chancel which was too dark (williams).

STABB, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV297703.
