Bone, M., 1973, Barnstaple's Industrial Archaeology, 18 (Monograph). SDV78228.

Documentary references of 1778, 1826 and 1828 suggest that Mill End Quay was sited west of Town Mills. The 1828 document refers to a dwelling house lately erected. This was presumably demolished when the Lynton and Barnstaple railway was constructed in 1898. The railway closed in 1935.
The site represents the historic frontage onto the River Yeo.

Exeter Archaeology, 1997, North Devon District Council Barnstaple Quay Project: Archaeological Assessment, 3 (Report - Assessment). SDV73005.

The Barnstaple Bridge Trust map of 1772 shows 4 quays in Barnstaple with only Millend Quay on the River Yeo. Prideaux Quay, Great Quay and Little Quay were on the River Taw separated by buildings.
