Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Halshill depicted comprising ranges of buildings around a rectangular courtyard with the house forming part of the east side.

The farm buildings have been demolished. The house is named as Rose Cottage.

Rosemead. House. C17. Cob, stone plinth, roughcast, under gabled-end thatched roof. Possibly a former 3-room, cross passage plan with front wing. External left-hand end stack to main range; external right-hand lateral stack to wing. 2 storeys. Front: One 3-light window to both floors of main range, 8 panes per light, with C20 thatched porch; left-hand face of wing with one 3-light window above, one 2 and one 3-light window to ground-floor, the latter with hood moulds (detail obscured by roughcast, but probably C19; cf similar features on other Poltimore estate buildings, eg. The Old Smithy, Church View. Buttressing to front of wing with small 2-light window; similar window to left of wing stack. 3 C19 casement windows to right-hand end of main range. Rear with slated lean-to; two 2-light, flat-faced timber mullioned windows. Ovolo moulded beam and fireplace lintel visible in left-hand room. Interior not inspected.
