Castle Iron Works was originally established in North Walk by Robert Harper in 1867, on the site of the present telephone exchange. It was moved to Holland Street by John K. Curry, who took over the business in 1899. Examples of the firms work are the castle gates and the ironwork for the restoration of the schooner 'Kathleen and May', now moored at Plymouth. Taken over by Parkin of Exeter in May 1972. The premises are no longer used.
