Full description

Vere Stead, W. B., 1902-3, Bovey Tracey Church Plate, 153 (Article in Serial). SDV290388.

There is a large silver paten in Bovey Tracey church. The hallmarks are RD, a crowned lion's head and a lion passant. The inscription is 'Ex dono Gulielmo Stawell, arm. paroch. De Bovey Tracey in comt. Devon 1691'. The foot is plain: it is beaten silver and is soldered onto the plate itself. Silver chalice. The foot of the cover of the chalice has a tudor rose on it. Inscribed: 'The Parysshe of Bove Trace. Ano Domyne 1576'. Pewter basin and flagon. The flagon has inscription 'IFBT' on the handle. The basin is inscribed with a rampant lion, and 'I A Forbes, Scot., Vic. Anno 1635'.
