Full description
Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.
'Hill' shown, with three residential buildings and a number of farm buildings.

Small hamlet with three separate holdings as early as 1595, all named 'Hill'. The1848 tithe map apportionment distinguishes holdings as Higher, Middle and Lower hill. Two farms still occupied, cottage and farm buildings on east side of road (Higher Hill) abandoned.

Site visit on 8th December 1999. Hill Farm farmhouse has a stump of a lateral stack indicating ancient origins. Attached to the east end of the farmhouse is an outbuilding which seems to have been a stable on the ground floor with loft above.
