The Modbury war memorial obelisk has the Second World War casualties alphabetically listed, while the First World War casualties were inscribed in the order of death.

Granite obelisk at junction of High Street and Church Street. Square base surmounted by plinth and granite obelisk. Inscription in black lettering on the sides of the plinth.

Photographs show the obelisk and the inscription 'ERECTED/ TO HONOUR THE MODBURY MEN/ WHO SERVED IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 - 1918./ AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF/ 28 OF THEM WHO/ LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR/ THEIR COUNTRY AND HUMANITY./GOD SAVE THE KING. The name, rank and service of those who died are inscribed on the two adjacent sides, and on the opposite side 'IN MEMORY OF/THOSE WHO FELL IN THE WAR/1339 - 1945' followed by the names and service of those who died.
