Full description

English Heritage, 2012, National Heritage List for England (National Heritage List for England). SDV348729.

Headstone approximately 2 metres to east of Parish Church of All Saints, church path. Headstone. 1728. A white limestone slab close to the east wall of the church has primitive carving and lettering. Close to the irregular-shaped top is an incised almost circular naively-carved face with four lines to each side, two dot eyes, triangular nose and wide slit mouth. The inscription reads 'HERE LYETH THE BODY OF ROBERT MAY WHO DIED JANUARY THE 10 1728 AGED 70Y HERE ALSO LYETH MARY MAY WIFE . . .'. Date listed: 11th December 1996.
