At norton, part of the medieval chapel may still be seen in an isolated farm building. This part of the parish formerly belonged to the dean and chapter (of exeter cathedral). A pond near norton farm was used in the 14th century for seasoning timbers for the cathedral roof (church guide).

The site of an ancient chapel situated about 10 chains sw of norton house (nmr citing onb).

Norton is mentioned "as a chapel to newton-st cyrick (st cyres) demolished" (nmr citing polwell).
