WIDECOMBE-IN- SX 77 NW THE-MOOR 2/140 Latrine House and Washing Place - about 14 metres north-west of Chittleford Farmhouse-GV II
Latrine house and washing place. Latrine house probably early C19; washing place may be earlier. Latrine house is of granite rubble with slated roof. It is a single-storeyed building on the bank above the stream bordering the garden of Chittleford Farmhouse. Door on south-east side; no windows. Contains a wooden seat with 2 openings above a shaft emptying directly into the stream. Simple roof- structure of common rafters with occasional tie-beams. Washing place lies about 5 metres south-east of the latrine house, against a granite wall running back towards the house. Set into this wall is a granite chute carrying in spring water. About a metre in front of it is a large semi-circular trough, made of a single piece of granite. This was formerly roofed; one granite supporting post remains.
