Full description

Vancouver, C., 1808, General View of the Agriculture of the County of Devon, 97 (Monograph). SDV294343.

Vancouver includes a plan of a cottage built at Oldridge Wood. It was built by John Prawle for Mr Sillifant of Coombe near Crediton. The two storey cottage has two rooms on each floor. The front door, in the centre of the front elevation, opens into the kitchen, the larger of the two rooms on the ground floor. It has a fireplace and oven projecting from the back wall. The stairs to the first floor rise at the end of the dividing wall between the kitchen and the adjoining room, the 'shop'.

Frankham Cottage marked. Depicted as a small rectangular building in the northwest corner of an irregular shaped orchard. A small rectangular structure is shown in a sub-circular area to the west.

Frankford Cottage is just south of Oldridge Church in Oldridge Woods. In ruins. Built for Mr Sillifant of Coombe near Crediton, an example for enlightened landlords to copy.

Site visit 1985. Frankford Cottage is in total ruins. It appears that no formal demolition ever took place the building simply decayed.
