Summary

Early working in a wood shaft in the orchard just to the north of Stone Farm. The mine was named Wheal Augusta and was first opened in September 1849. The venture was unsuccessful and closed in 1850. The mine was renamed and a new shaft engine house, store rooms and office were built with a 40 inch engine. Due to the downturn in the barytes market however, the mine was abandoned in 1855.
