Full description
White, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV25328.
White's devon directory of 1850 refers to successful iron mining in brixham having started in the last ten years. Most of the iron was exported to wales although yellow ochre was used for pigment. The lode was 35' wide running n-s. The surface workings reached up to 40' deep in places (white).

Sharkham mine at sx934547.300,000 tons of iron ore produced between 1858 and 1914. Mostly for use in the local paint industry. Red oxide from sx936546 was used for paint also. Peak of production was in 1860-72. Surface workings with traces of old shafts and adits at sharkham point (dcc mining database).
