Yaddon down windmill, st. Marychurch, torbay. The windmill on windmill hill is now in ruins (minchinton, 1973). Windmill first mentioned in a deed of 1673 requiring lease of ground to build it in a suitable place. In 1694 it was leased to a miller from chagford. There is a water-colour of the mill in the 1790's by the rev. J. B. Swete in the devon record office. The remains of the mill survive at 44, audley avenue and is used as a garden store and pigeon loft. Built of limestone it is 9m high and 4.5m diameter internally (minchinton, 1977) in 1808 the lease for sale included a newly built dwelling house (douch). Deeds of 1673 and 1694 discussed. Placename based on the anglo saxon word for high hill (watkin).
