Full description

REICHEL, 1928-1938, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV171.

Warkleigh, the domesday manor of nimete, was held by the king in 1086. Before the conquest it was held by two sisters. Early descents of the manor given (reichel, 1928-1938).

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, Untitled Source (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV24.

Vis=5/12/1953 (os) old house vacated some eighty years ago when present house built.

Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV242.

It was known as nimete in domesday, where it was wrongfully added to the manor of molland. Notwithstanding its annexation to molland, it appears in the fee lists in south molton hundred, and must therefore have belonged to south molton hundred before 1084 (reichel).

ANDREWS,1960, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV85166.

Warkleigh barton. Map marks "remains of manor house" beside the barton, but remaining ruins appear to be those of the outbuildings. The barton stood round three sides of a courtyard, north side open. Present farmhouse of standard rolle estate type, well built and unimaginative. Rolle arms on west front. No date, but most similar houses 1870 or 1880. Shown on os map 1887 (andrews,1960).

ANDREWS,1962, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV85167.

Warkleigh is the site of a domesday manor (andrews,1962).

ANDREWS, 1960, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV85169.

Warkleigh was added to molland, a royal estate, before 1086. Appears as nymet in domesday. Some descents of ownership and history (andrews, 1960).
