MORRIS, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV24281.

Author notes the easter sepulchre constructed as a permanent feature at holcombe burnell parish church (morris).

HOSKINS, E & E, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV282050.

The parish church of holcombe burnell, st. John the baptist. A 15th. Century church which replaced a 13th. Century one. Rebuilt and enlarged, except for the tower, in 1843. Over the s doorway are some 13th. Century heads. Original rood screen used to make the pulpit which has painted figures of the madonna, gabriel and six saints. The altar is a spanish chest, which may have come from armada wreckage, for sir thomas dennis, a prominent elizabethan, lived nearby in the barton. Wagon roof with coloured bosses. Remains of an easter sepulchre, with carvings of christ risen from the tomb, now surmounts the tomb of sir robert dennis who died in 1592 (hoskins, e & e).
