A ridge and furrow field system is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (p1). It is located on a slight rise abutting a stream. The ridge and furrow is sited within an area described as ‘Medieval enclosures based on strip fields' in Devon’s Historic Landscape Characterisation, and is likely to be of medieval origin. It has been digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme.

The earthworks of medieval ridge and furrow mentioned within this record by Young & Turner may also represent evidence of improvement ridge and furrow, a common 19th-20th century practice involving the (mechanical) ploughing of ground for the improvement of drainage and or areas of rough ground. This monument record has accordingly been double indexed to reflect this.
