West Town, on the site of a pre-conquest farmstead. The present house dates to the 17th century and has been described as an 'architectural gem' (citing Hoskins (1954), MHLG (1949) and Braddick (1962).
Site visit 17th September 1969. The interior of the house might be described as an 'architectural gem' as it has been little altered. The staircase bears the date 1671. Externally most of the windows are 19th century casements. The doorways are original, but to the casual observer it would not appear outstanding.
Pamment, J., 1986, Parish Survey of Whitestone and Oldridge, 102 (Report - Survey). SDV295504.
Westtown was one of three estates held by Walter de Langeden in about 1303 according to the feudal aids. A manor house or mansion was built here but little is known concerning this building, the remains of which appear to have been incorporated within the present day complex dating largely from the 17th century.
Department of Environment, 1986, Whitestone, 100 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV346823.
