Summary

Kent's cavern. A polishing stone was found in the black mould on 22nd november 1865 under a limestone block. It was a quadrantal fragment of an oblate spheroidal pebble of fine-grained quartzite probably derived from the budleigh salterton pebble beds. One of the polar surfaces and one at right angles to it, formed by the fracture of the stone, had undergone a considerable amount of artificial polishing, as is used for grinding, sharpening or polishing.
